so its currently 759 pm here in rome. this morning i got up at like 800 and got ready and then conversed with a woman in the local bar while waiting for my cappucino to be brewed. surprisingly i did ok given that i dont remember pretty much any italian. granted, we talked about almost nothing and she was amused by the crazy asian who came in attempting to speak italian but you know, whatevs.

so after i finished blogging yesterday another group of IES students came by our apartment and our italian student companions made us two delicious pasta dishes. granted, they were simple- spaghetti with gravy and bacon and egg noodles with gravy as well as a bread which was like a mix between sourdough and wheat. yumm. my roommates are cool. i was just telling my sister how i have one comment on the people in this program...theyre just nice. i mean like i have no problem with them besides that its a mixture of people from so many different schools so the intellectual level isnt exactly the highest, but other than that theyre just...nice. i mean like im just not used to it, i guess. considering half of my friends arent even my real friends (yall know who you are). well yes that is all i have to say about that.

so starting at 930 we did a bus tour of rome where they showed us all the places that were important for us to know. including the bookstore, the hidden treasures, the main bus and rail stations, and the places we shouldnt find ourselves at night. it was pretty useful, i would say, but i was pretty tired and the stopping and going of the crazy rome traffic didnt quite do it for me. so then they took us to Villa Torlonia where we dined for many hours at a place called la limonaia. it was amazing, first they brought out riceballs, zucchini flowers, and potato croquets. it was funny cause every1 else was like what is this stuff?! and i was like people, step it up! and i had to explain what everything was. then they brought out bruschetta which is even more amazing when made with the correct olive oil. then we had a pasta primavera type dish which was super excellent since the farfalle was ACTUALLY al dente. then they served us a spring mix type salad and fresh buffalo mozzarella with a balsamic vinegar. yum. then it was desert. i had a pignoli creme tart which was amazing (and if you know me at all you know how much pignoli nuts pretty much rule my life). then we headed over to the university of malta which is where i'm taking classes and had a small orientation session where they just explained stupid things to us. whatevs. yeah so im gonna head out and just hope that the grocery stores and things are still open. im pretty beat and kinda just wanna finish unpacking. after seeing my clothes, i see that i brought far too much but now im just gonna force myself to wear every piece. and then just throw out the stuff i dont like. and i already know that i will soon be discarding my flip flops. so it shouldnt be too bad. i totally understand the importance of food and travel so i know i wont be buyin much of anything while im here.

ok well im gonna venture out to explore the nomentana region a bit. ill post pictures later tonight if i take anymore. woot for wireless in my apartment.
